March Is Arts Education Month

Calvert County Public Schools is proud to celebrate March as Arts Education Month, a district‑wide recognition of the powerful impact that Visual and Performing Arts have on student development, academic achievement, and community engagement. Throughout the month, CCPS celebrates student creativity, honors the dedicated educators who make the arts possible, and reaffirms our commitment to equitable access to high‑quality arts instruction for all students.

The Power of Arts Education

National research continues to affirm that participation in the arts meaningfully strengthens children’s learning and long‑term success.

Academic, Cognitive, and Social‑Emotional Benefits

A 2025 report from the National Endowment for the Arts shows that arts engagement from early childhood through high school is consistently linked to improved social‑emotional skills, stronger cognitive development, and increased academic achievement, graduation rates, and postsecondary outcomes.

In addition, a 2025 analysis from Public School Review found that arts participation enhances memory, concentration, problem‑solving, and boosts overall school climate by giving students healthy tools for stress regulation and emotional expression.

Equity and Access

Research also indicates that arts programs provide crucial access to high‑quality learning in communities where opportunities may be limited. Public School Review notes that students in high‑poverty or rural districts are disproportionately affected by reduced access to arts education, making school‑based programs critical for ensuring educational equity.

Furthermore, national organizations including the National Art Education Association and ArtsEdSearch reiterate that sequential arts learning strengthens communication, creativity, and collaboration—skills that prepare students for success in higher education, civic life, and the modern workforce.

Our District Commitment

Calvert County Public Schools remains deeply committed to ensuring that all students—from PreK through grade 12—have access to robust, high‑quality arts instruction. The arts cultivate critical thinking, confidence, emotional well‑being, and cultural literacy. They build inclusive school environments where every learner has a pathway to express themselves, discover their strengths, and thrive.

This March, we invite families, community partners, and supporters across Calvert County to join us in celebrating the impact of arts education—and the bright futures it helps shape for every student.
